FLORIAN HELLWIG

German playwright, dramaturg and theatremaker. He was born in 1971 in Bremen.
Study of German language and literature and historical Sciences at the universities of Bremen and Amsterdam. Thesis about theatre plays by Christoph Hein. Post academic theatre education in Amsterdam. Internships with Johan Simons, Gerardjan Rijnders and Theu Boermans, at the Münchner Kammerspiele and Toneelgroep Amsterdam.

Freelance dramaturg for Franz Wittenbrink, Thomas Ostermeier, Boukje Schweigman, Sabri Saad El-Hamus and others. Hellwig works as dramaturg and sometimes as a director's assistant for Toneelgroep Amsterdam, De Nieuw Amsterdam DNA, het Nationale Toneel Den Haag, Schweigman& and Paul Koek / De Veenfabriek.

Essays about performing arts, cinema and fine arts. Readings, lectures and seminars about dramaturgy, drama theory and history in theatres, at festivals, universities, colleges and cultural institutions. Since 2009 dramatic introductions and interviews as part of the International programming of the Holland Festival and Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam.

Furthermore working as language and dialogue coach for theatre and film, e.g. for movies by Oskar Roehler, Paul Verhoeven, Maria Peters and Rudolf van den Berg. Several translations from Dutch and English into German for theatres and theatre companies, for instance for Wunderbaum and De Warme Winkel. German translations of playwrights by Gerardjan Rijnders and Annelies Verbeke.

Since 2005 Hellwig writes his own plays for theatre. Some of his plays has been directed by himself. Interdisciplinary performances on special locations in the Netherlands and Germany:
In a storehouse, at a former butcher's, in a city park. In spring 2011 he showed his architectonic installation From U to Pia about past and present utopias.

He lives in Amsterdam since 1995.
